What is an 80% Lower Receiver?
An 80% Lower Receiver is a term that refers to an item that has been partially machined but has NOT yet reached a stage of manufacture that meets the definition of firearm frame or receiver found in the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA).

How can I turn an 80% Lower Receiver into a working firearm?
In order to turn an 80% Lower Receiver in to a working Firearm you must complete the Manufacturing Process. Specifically, you must machine the Fire Control Group Pocket and you must drill holes for the Hammer, Trigger Pins and Selector. The easiest method to complete this process is by using a JIG, such as the 5D Tactical Router Jig Pro.

What if I don't want to finish the machining myself?
Simply pick up a 100% Stripped Lower Receiver from your local gun store. These are readily available and typically cost about $50 to purchase. If you are a First Time Builder we highly RECOMMEND this option for completing your build. It is generally LESS EXPENSIVE and takes LESS TIME to complete.

Is it legal to manufacture my own firearm?
Yes, it is legal to build your own firearm for Personal Use, as long as you can legally own a firearm. Here is the link to the ATF&E's website for the more details.

This is my first ever AR build so take this lightly.  I got the lower as part of a complete kit with some of the upgrade options.  Upon initial inspection and with the guidance of my jig directions I though this was a gen2 lower because of the partially milled out rear takedown pocket.

After I finished milling the lower per those directions I could not get the upper and lower to mate.  I chatted with support and found that the lower was still a gen1 even though it looked like the gen2.  I went back and finished milling the rest of the takedown pocket and everything fit great.

I'm super happy with how the kit turned out.  Everything fit together like it should after my initial blunder and the quality of everything looks good.  I cannot wait to take it to the range and put some rounds through it.

No fire/ safe markings but that’s ok. Bought five so far and all milled out perfectly. The AR15 platform was a brilliant idea. Thanks again

Bought 2 and they had the fire/safe markings on them. Bought 2 more about a month later and the lowers did not have the fire/safe markings. Very disappointed. Describe did not reflect that. They did mill out ok. Will find another place to buy lowers

I've done a few 80's of different manufacturers.  The one I just received from Ceratac had a few issues.  The rear lug hole for the upper is machined too small in both width and length.  The BHO spring hole was drilled after anodizing was completed.  And, there's no Safe and Fire stamped on the lower.   A little disappointed.  We'll see how the final fit works out.
